1 Week Before Your Peel:
- Avoid the Following:
- Waxing or depilatories
- Laser hair removal
- Facial services
- Microdermabrasion
- Dermaplaning
- Sun exposure
1-3 Days Before Your Peel:
- Discontinue: Use of retinol products.
- Immediately After the Peel: Skin may appear frosted or sunburned with redness potentially increasing over several hours.
- First 24 Hours: Expect dryness, tightness, and mild itching in the treated area.
- Day 2: Skin may darken; continue to experience tightness and itching until sloughing and peeling begin.
- Days 2-3: Peeling generally starts, often from the mouth area and spreads outward. Peeling may continue for 2-4 days.
- Important: Do not scrub, pick, or pull at peeling skin.
Day One
- Initial Care: For the first 4-6 hours after your peel, avoid washing, touching, or applying any makeup or sunscreen. Apply nothing to the skin during this period.
- If Irritation Occurs: If you experience excessive itching or irritation before the 4-6 hour mark, you may gently cleanse the treated area with a mild cleanser and water. Do not use anything abrasive like sponges or washcloths. Taking Benadryl can help with itching if necessary.
- After 4-6 Hours: Wash the area with a mild cleanser (we can recommend one if needed) and water using only your hands. Ensure the skin is thoroughly dried. Apply a post-peel retinoid towelette to the treated area 30-45 minutes after cleansing. Ensure the skin is completely dry before applying. Allow the product to absorb into the skin for at least 1 hour before bedtime.
- Moisturizing: If the skin feels extremely dry or slightly stinging after using the towelette, you may apply the VI Derm Moisturizer provided in the kit. For additional relief of irritation or redness, you may use a light layer of hydrocortisone 1% or 2.5% cream. Benadryl can also be taken if needed.
Day Two
- Morning: Gently cleanse your face with a mild cleanser. Apply VI sunscreen and/or makeup as usual. Ensure you protect your skin from sun exposure.
- Evening: 1-2 hours before bedtime, wash the treated area with a mild cleanser and water using only your hands. Dry the skin thoroughly, as it must be completely dry. Apply the second post-peel retinoid towelette to the treated area at least 1 hour before bed to allow for absorption.
- Moisturizing: If you feel extremely dry or uncomfortable after applying the towelette, use the VI Derm Moisturizer included in the kit. You may also apply a light layer of hydrocortisone cream for additional relief of irritation or redness. Benadryl can be used if needed.
Days Three to Five
- Morning: Cleanse with a mild cleanser, then apply the provided moisturizer if needed, followed by sunscreen before applying makeup. You may use hydrocortisone cream if necessary.
- Evening: Cleanse with a mild cleanser and apply the VI Derm Moisturizer. Hydrocortisone cream can also be used if needed.
- Peeling Process: You will begin to see peeling, starting around the mouth area and progressing to other treated areas. It is normal to experience itchiness during this phase. Apply hydrocortisone cream to alleviate itching.
- Ongoing Care: As peeling progresses, apply the VI Derm Moisturizer as needed for comfort and to manage any peeling. This helps prevent picking at the skin, which can lead to redness, irritation, and hyperpigmentation.
Day Six and After
- Resuming Regular Skincare: You may resume your regular skincare regimen once peeling is complete. If your skin remains sensitive, red, or irritated, wait until these symptoms subside before using strong products. This may take up to 2 weeks.
- For Chest, Hands, & Back: Peeling in these areas will generally continue into the week following the peel. Follow the same instructions as for the face. After the second night of using the retinoid towelettes, continue using tretinoin at bedtime until peeling begins, which usually takes about 5-7 days. Tretinoin samples will be provided. When washing treated areas, use hands only and avoid scrubbing. Apply VI Derm Moisturizer after washing and patting dry.
Additional Tips
- Use of Vi Products: Stick to the Vi Derm products included in your kit for the next 7-10 days. If you run out, use a gentle non-retinol/acid cleanser and moisturizer.
- Avoid Soaking: Do not excessively soak treated areas to prevent premature peeling.
- Sun Protection: Avoid sunlight as much as possible during the peeling phase. Always use SPF 30 or higher daily.
- No Facial Treatments: Refrain from any facial treatments (including waxing) for at least 2 weeks after peeling is complete.
- Avoid Irritating Products: Do not use products that may burn or sting your skin.
- Daily Maintenance: Continue using the Vi Derm system for daily skin maintenance to help preserve the effects of the peel.
