Please review all pre and post instructions prior to signing consent for all treatments.
By providing your consent for these procedures, you acknowledge and agree to the following care instructions.
- Health Status:
- Clients should be in good health and have no chronic illnesses or medical conditions that could affect the outcome of my treatment.
- Medications:
- Have not currently taken Motrin, aspirin, or any other blood-thinning medications, and I agree to avoid these for 72 hours before any invasive treatment.
- Have not consumed antibiotics or steroids within the last 10 days. If I have, I will reschedule my appointment.
- Skin Condition:
- Arrive with clean skin, free of makeup, lotions, and any other products.
- Not using Accutane and have not used it within the last 6 months.
- Do not used retinols or skin-lightening products in the treatment area for 7-10 days, unless otherwise instructed by my provider.
- Cold Sores:
- Pre-treat for cold sores 3-7 days before treatments involving the face or private areas if I am prone to them.
- Hydration and Nutrition:
- Maintain a minimum intake of 62 ounces of water daily for 5-7 days post-treatment.
- Eat a protein-based meal before my treatment.
- Review and Questions:
- Review the contraindications, pre, and post-instructions located on the Skin+Tonic Brighton website: www.skinandtonicbrighton.com.

- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Active infections or rashes in the treatment area
- Severe or uncontrolled chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, cardiovascular disease)
- History of severe allergic reactions or anaphylaxis
- Recent surgery or invasive procedures in the treatment area
- Use of immunosuppressive medications
- Cancer or undergoing cancer treatments
- Reschedule 48 hours prior to treatment: If you have consumed or used any of the contraindications above.
- Sun Exposure: Disclose your last sun exposure for the treatment area. This helps reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation.
- Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV): If you have HSV I or II, you must pre-treat and post-treat with antiviral medication for 7 days.
- Medications and Products: Do not use Accutane, skin lightening creams, retinoids, gold therapy, photosensitizing drugs, or anticoagulants during the course of treatment. Discontinue prescription retinol products (if treating the face) for at least 7 days prior.
- Alcohol: Avoid alcohol consumption for 24 hours before your appointment.
- Hair Removal: Do not tweeze, wax, or thread the hair in the treatment area during the entire course of treatments.
- Shaving: Arrive with the treatment area clean-shaven. We charge $50 to shave a treatment area if needed.
- Notify staff if you have been using any skin lightening products such as Hydrocodone
Day of Treatment Instructions
- Preparation: Read and acknowledge all risks and complications prior to treatment.
- Arrive without any deodorants, oils, lotions or products on the treatment area.
- Sun Exposure: Refrain from direct sun exposure and apply sunscreen to protect from indirect sun exposure. Apply sunscreen 30 minutes prior to sun exposure and reapply every hour during the treatment program.
- Redness and Sensation: You may experience redness and a mild sunburn sensation for 2-12 hours post-treatment. Use a cool compress, vinegar rinse or Aloe Vera gel to soothe the skin and reduce redness.
- Follicular Edema: Slight swelling or red bumps (follicular edema) may occur and will dissipate within a few hours or days.
- Medications: You may take OTC Zyrtec during the day and/or Benadryl at night (avoid operating heavy machinery if using Benadryl).
- Product Use: Do not apply anything other than instructed by staff to the treated area until you have spoken with a staff member.
- Exfoliation: Avoid exfoliating with topical scrubs or chemical exfoliants such as Retin-A or facial scrubs for 7 days post-treatment. For CO2, plasma services, and photo facials, avoid exfoliation until cleared at your follow-up appointment, or until scabs/dark cells have naturally fallen off (usually 2-4 weeks).
- Hair Removal: 7-14 days after laser hair removal, hair will start to fall out. Use a washcloth to gently wipe away loose hairs and resume shaving if needed.
- Appointment Scheduling: Proper spacing of appointments is crucial for effective hair reduction. You are responsible for scheduling and keeping your appointments. Skin and Tonic is not liable for negative results if you do not adhere to the recommended schedule.
- Facial Treatment: For facial treatments, elevate your head to reduce swelling and avoid sleeping on your face or side for 1 week.
- Alcohol: Avoid alcohol for 24-48 hours post-care.
- Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals
- Accutane: Must not have used Accutane for 6 months prior to treatment.
- Active Contagious Skin Diseases: Such as herpes or other contagious skin conditions.
- Antibiotics or Steroids: Avoid use of antibiotics or steroids 10 days prior to treatment.
- Retin-A or Renova: Discontinue use for 7 days prior to any laser treatment.
- Sun Exposure: Avoid sunless tanning products, tanning beds, or active sunburn for 4 weeks prior to treatment.
- Plucking or waxing Hairs Prior to treatment should be AVOIDED
If on a package or series, confirm your next treatment appointment. It is recommended to have 3-4 treatments sometimes 6 depending on the treatment, with maintenance sessions every 6 months and annual repeats to enhance and sustain results and collagen production.
